Bonnie's January Update

I haven't worked on Bramble this month, but I do have a new start to show you.
I am doing a SAL with some friends in my local stitching group. We are doing the seasonal mandala's.

I decided to give 40ct linen a try and am doing this on one piece of fabric. I am using the called for DMC with one strant over 2.

While I have been in love with Ink Circles designs since I first laid eyes on them, the only one I've ever stitched was the Thread & Eye Mandala created especially for a SAL my LNS (Thread & Eye) held last year. (I actually left out the black outline because I didn't want to overwhelm the colours I'd chosen.)

I am so pleased that you all are posting still and keeping up with the stitching.

Most of you know my stitching Mojo disappeared during 2011. Well I am glad to say it looks like it has returned!! So I am hoping to be joining you all this year.

Now I haven't forgotten about the small incentive I have on this blog, as soon as I can I will sort this out. And let you all know who has won and what they have won. I pay for this myself so please bare with me on this!

Shy Violets finish

Finished this two days ago and recieved Pizzazz in the mail yesterday so I'll start that soon. I had fun with this one, made a few changes including filling in the design with a color that matched the model on the chart. Changed the floss colors as well, used Valdani Evergreens, Orchid Mauve along with the Gast Sugarplum and DMC 522 and 523. Inside is the lighter DMC and outside is the darker.

I've started Shy Violet while I'm waiting for Pizzazz to come in the mail. I'm using Valdani Evergreens for the green and will probably swap out another color for the creamy color as well. I'm thinking of doing this pattern three in a row with different purples as a gift for a relative. I'm using I think 18ct fabric (sort of a mystery piece..lol) cream fabric.

Almost forgot - here's a photo of my finished Namaste hanging at my local spa. They are hard to see but I attached to the bamboo hangers some fake Chinese coins I found at my local A.C. Moore in the jewelry section. Not culturally accurate but they achieved the mood I was looking for :-) Sorry about the picture quality...I look forward to seeing what everyone else does with theirs!

The time for this month's updates seemed to come really quickly. Didn't this month fly by!!!

September 2011 - Red Square happy dance
I had grand visions of popping this into a frame for this post - hahahaha...

I also hoped to take a snap of it in daylight so the colours were closer to the real thing - hahahaha...

And so I came to that wonderful place where there is a choice to be made... "Do I get back to the WIP OR do I go ahead and start something new [not for the very least reason that it's the celebration of the month of your birth and you should go ahead and treat our self - that New Years resolution is long gone by now anyway...]" No prizes for guessing which choice won :)

Pizzazz - New Start
I have been inspired to join those of you stitching Pizzazz, below is my first start. I found this piece of linen in my stash and thaught I would try stitching 1 thread over 2 [on 32 count] to see if it would let the 'hand dyed' look on the linen show through better....

....ummm - not such a good look for this particular pattern!!! So, over to another corner for another new start :)
...happier now...

Hi all - lots to say here since I missed July. Sadly I could have posted for July but had camera problems. Luckily that was only the second month I missed so I have to stay on the ball for the rest of the year!

So here is my June progress on Pot Luck. I need to correct my previous post re: the thread color; this is actually Carrie's "Black Cherries." Also just as a refresher - this is 1 over 1 on 28 ct Irish Linen.

And here's my finish for August! It's not framed yet, as I plan to wait until I have several of the small designs done and then get them all framed in coordinating yet different frames and hang them together as a montage. The colors in the June picture are truer to life than the below; I am still getting the hang of digital photography.

Last but certainly not least here is my new start - this is Pizzazz on 28 ct Cashel "Gravestone" from Stitches and Spice, 2 over 2 using HDF Plumage. This floss is so beautiful; I wish everyone could see it IRL. And I don't know what base VC uses for her silks, but it is so far of all the ones I have tried my absolute favorite. It is so smooth, doesn't twist or kink - ab fab!

That's it for me...looking forward to seeing more of everyone's beautiful work in September!

Now my progess pic will not look the same but in a different way. A few weeks ago, I realized that I had two different dye lots of Carrie's Creations. I was very grateful that my LNS had the right dye lot and I only needed to rip out about 1/3 of what I had done.

Finished the first design in Namaste and wanted to share. It took me about 6 hours to do the purples. Not sure about the black, which I did first, because the frogs visited several times as I was trying to watch TV and stitch at the same time. I wonder if the other way might be easier, colours then black. Have to think on that.

Hi all

Can't believe we are at the end of July already.... I haven't managed a great deal of IC stitching this month but have posted pics below.

Unfortunately I had a run-in with one [big] frog [nearly a whole corner section], that has left me with no floss left to finish the red section - boo hoo. I am waiting on an order with more Carries Creation 'Plymouth Red' and am praying it will be close enough in colour to finish without having to frog out the other 3 finished ovally bits... so if anyone else decides to do this 'quick' little design using hand dyed fibres on 14/28 count fabby - I would recommend buying an extra skein of the main colour.

I know I haven't posted in forever but I have been stitching. I'm working on Namaste, sorry no pic and I just finished Tanglewood! I didn't even block it yet. That is next as my framer is having a sale this weekend and I want to get it in to her tomorrow if possible. We'll see how well the blocking goes. So here it is . . . Tanglewood.

I only have one photo as this month is a new start for me...I ended up going with Pot Luck, and I'm afraid it's not very exciting as I am using a monochrome silk. However, this is my first time using silk so I will try an overdyed next time! So this is Carrie's Creations "Grape" on 28-count "Irish Linen" (that is the only name I have for it - an ancient tube of Charles Craft I had lying around!), 1 strand over 1. This is the first time I have worked this small and at first it was awkward but now it's going well. Over 1 on this fine a count might be better done on evenweave such as Monaco, though - I'm afraid there may be some discontinuity when I hit a slub or a place where the weave is far apart. But all in all I am pleased with it so far. Happy stitching everyone - stay cool, or for those down under, warm!

I missed April because I had no progress to report, but put the pedal to the metal and finished This Heart of Mine for May. Learned a lot about using variegated/overdyed floss for the first time and about stitching a symmetrical design - first, you cannot use the loop method with variegated floss - learned that after putting in the first couple of dozen stitches! Second, even if a chart is both vertically and horizontally symmetric, you cannot keep turning it clockwise - yes, I ended up with large chunks of stitches "going the wrong way"! This is why I used cheap floss and linen for my first effort with both a variegated floss and a monochromatic design :-) I plan to continue my education by tackling either Pizzazz or Pot Luck next - need to dig through the fabric and floss stash first. See you in June....

I opted for a smaller design this time as I am waiting in anticipation for next month's Gift Of Stitching mag and it's new IC design (which looks like it might be a companion to B&R) hmmmm....only a few days to go...

Well, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who hasn't been posting much. But the stitching hasn't been neglected....

After my B & R Happy Dance last month my new project for March is Masquerade which I am stitching on 28 count hand dyed fabric by Polstitches called silver lining using Gentle Art Sampler threads. I am thoroughly enjoying stitching this design and think it won't be too long before I am doing another HD it is stitching up so quickly. Here is my progress so far.

March Namaste Finish and New Start

Well, finished stitching, that is. I am waiting for my bell pull hardware to arrive in order to finish fully and will post a pic of same when all done. Above are my before and after for Namaste, and at the very top is a shot of the beginning of my next project, This Heart of Mine. I have never worked with overdyed or variegated threads before, let alone silk, so I am starting small with this. It's DMC Color Variations 4065 and I am working on a cheap piece of DMC 28 count linen :-) Thus if it doesn't turn out well at least I am not out much money!

Pizzazz and B&R is growing weeds

It's been simply ages since I posted here - sorry :o) My B&R (started in March 2010) has grown weeds of late I really must get my act together and get some regular hours on it in the coming months.

However, I do have an Ink Circles finish - it was started by my teenage daughter on "parme" aida using "Morning Meadows" Threadworx but she got bored with it, so handed it over to Mum to finish off.

Hi again everyone

Well I had high hopes of finishing my Bramble and Rose this month for a happy dance, but decided I 'needed' to stitch this little 'Panic Free Gift' designed by Tracy as soon as I saw it in TGOS 'The Gift Of Stitching' online magazine. After fiddling around choosing fabric and colours, I did manage to finish it, so I suppose that rates a mini jig : )

I plan to make this into a cover for my new mobile phone - hopefully some-time soon, but I won't panic if I don't (sorry) ....

Here's my February progress (top) compared to last month (bottom). I would have gotten more done but was held up by the flu for a week, plus I have decided to take up knitting too - only so many hours in the day! I continue to really enjoy this piece, and am considering in future using the individual motifs in other ways - one of my friends loves the crown chakra and I may make her an ornament out of that single one.

Hello everybody. I was extremely active on the stitching front this month and got quite a bit done. The bird on tanglewood somehow reminds me of Harry Potter's Hippogriff, so it was double fun to watch it slowly evolve.

Just a quick update, I finished the sky! I did get the brown thread ordered to finish outlining the branches and I have the Hawaiian Mandala and Namaste kitted up. I am on the road for two weeks next month so Namaste is coming with me. I think it will stitch up quickly. I pulled threads from my stash rather than buying so the colors will be a little different but still proper for the Chakras. So without further ado January and February.
